On deformation of A-M interface in single crystal shape memory alloys and some related issues
Article Abstract:
Experimental findings on the deformation field of single crystal CuNiAl shape memory alloys are presented. By employing the full-field Moire interference method, two types of austenite-martensite (A-M) interfaces with different deformation characteristics are determined. The results questioned the invariant plane hypothesis employed in crystallographic theory of martensitic transformation. Some important concerns on the property of A-M interface as well as the related micro- and macro-deformation characteristics are discussed.

Experimental characterization of crack tip deformation fields in alloy 718 at high temperatures
Article Abstract:
Fracture mechanics test were undertaken at temperatures of 650 degrees C and 704 degrees C in air, using a nickel-based superalloy 718. Surface displacements and strains were measured before and during creep crack growth. Quantitative comparisons at high temperatures were able to be made and the results confirm that linear elastic conditions dominate near-crack-tip displacements at 650 degrees C.
