The open-air demolition of the 233-S Plutonium Concentration Facility, of nuclear reactor and processing facility at the Hanford Site, which is highly contaminated with plutonium, is discussed. Open-air demolition method is used with sophisticated measures for controlling the spread of contamination instead of conventional methods because of the intensity of pollution.

This article discusses a new technology developed for addressing soil and groundwater contamination in United States and Canada.
