PAS, present and future: clues to the origins of circadian clocks
Article Abstract:
A recent study identified the genetic transcription factor WC-2 as a protein involved in the fungus Neurospora's circadian clock, which feeds back and inhibits its own transcription. Identification of similar PAS domains in both Neurospora and Drosophila suggest a common origin for clock proteins.

The ever-present packaging challenge
Article Abstract:
Supercomputer designers are always developing ever more dense packing of chips, and thus shorter interconnect distances and faster computing speeds. Tradition supercomputers and massively parallel systems (MPS) are trending toward bare die, or unpackaged circuit, logic and memory.

Past and present subtropical summer monsoons
Article Abstract:
The factors influencing the timing and severity of monsoons include air-mass flow patterns, continental snow cover and sea surface temperature. General atmospheric circulation models can quantify the role of each of these factors in the dynamics of current and past monsoons.
