PM-10 high-volume collection and quantitation of semi- and nonvolatile phenols, methoxylated phenols, alkanes, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from winter urban air and their relationship to wood smoke emissions
Article Abstract:
A study conducted to determine the relationship of residential wood burning with the concentration of phenols and methoxylated phenols in urban winter air is discussed. Samples of organic pollutants were collected from three sampling sites. C analysis was used to compare the contribution of wood burning to inhalable particulate carbon. The utility of guaiacol measurements for quantitatively determining the contribution of wood burning to air pollution was demonstrated.

Behavior of urban dust contaminated by Chernobyl fallout: environmental half-lives and transfer coefficients
Article Abstract:
A method for predicting contamination levels after a pollution episode derived from an investigation of urban dust behavior is discussed. Dust activity concentrations and transfer coefficients were calculated from the ratio of outdoor to indoor dust activity concentrations. Both sets of parameters were found to be capable of predicting pollutants concentrations in dust.

Characterization of sources of lead in the urban air of Asia using ratios of stable lead isotopes
Article Abstract:
Research has employed lead isotope ratios to investigate lead air pollution in urban areas of Asian countries. Samples were collected from Indonesia, Japan, Korea, China, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Differences in airborne lead isotope ratios reflected regional source differences. Sources included leaded gasoline, industrial discharge, coal burning and refuse combustion.
