Parkfield quakes skip a beat
Article Abstract:
Seismologists predicted an earthquake in Parkfield, CA, by the end of 1992 based on analysis of the earthquake cycle, but the event failed to occur. The complexity of fault systems makes long-term predictions difficult, but scientists still believe Parkfield is in the final quarter of a quake cycle.

At the heart of earthquakes, seismologists look for pulse
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that both small and large earthquake tend to occur at fairly regular intervals. This finding supports the theory that earthquakes occur because of some characteristic of the fault and provides hope that long-term earthquake prediction will become possible.

Ice, quakes, and a wobble shake San Francisco
Article Abstract:
One report at the AGU meeting theorized that an external trigger, not the Laurentide glacier, caused the Heinrich events during the last ice age. Other issues included historical records on global warming and seismological detection of the start of earthquakes.
