Partial to crime: Families become suspects as rules on DNA matches relax
Article Abstract:
Criminologists are worried that the partial DNA matches might intrude on privacy and cast suspicion on innocent family members. The FBI had created Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) in 1990 to help investigators search among convicted sex offenders and other criminals for matches to evidence from unsolved crimes, but this software does not allow sophisticated searches at the moment.

The discovery of the first dubbed DRD2, in 1990 has led researchers to hunt for DNA sequences to solve the problem of alcoholism. Researchers are trying to understand the effects of alcoholism on different people, and how intoxication develops, so that a pharmacological agent can be developed which would cut down on accidents.
