Canada will reduce Parks Canada's funding by nearly $1 million and increase user fees to finance the expansion and operation of the national parks system and historic sites. Liberals should follow the lead of Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who is committed to preserve Canada's parks and wildlife.

Natives and northern parks
Article Abstract:
The long-standing relationship between Canada's national parks service and the local, aboriginal natives in the Yukon Territory has been strained at best. The aborigines resent the service for prohibiting what they have traditionally done for centuries and consider thus them to be outsiders.

Canada gets a new national park!
Article Abstract:
The creation of 11,457-sq-km. Wapusk National Park in Churchill, Manitoba was ensured through the signing of the federal-provincial agreement on April 24, 1996 by the Prince of Wales. The park will be the seventh largest in Canada.
