An outbreak of lethal avian influenza A has infected some 26 million chickens in Mexico. The government is attempting to control the epidemic with vaccines and quarantines, but its efforts may not be successful in preventing widespread devastation.

Will fossil from down under upend mammal evolution?

The discovery of four fossil teeth in Australia may challenge long held views of mammalian evolution. The teeth, which are believed to have come from a placental mammal, could alter the time of origin of placentals by 110 million years.

Deliberate flood renews habitat

The Colorado River was deliberately flooded on Mar 26, 1996, in an effort to rejuvenate river ecology. Scientists hope the $1.5-million experiment will make the riverbanks a more liveable environment for endangered species.
