Port Franks Forested Dunes
Article Abstract:
The Port Franks Forested Dunes in Canada are a recognised haven for bird watching and ar a designated Important Bird Area (IBA). The dunes accomodate an intact woodland ecosystem and also dry and savanna vegetation. Approximately 320 bird and 800 plant species can be found there, including many rarities.

Reserving judgment on Riding Mountain
Article Abstract:
Black bears of the Riding Mountain National Park which stray outside its territories are baited and killed by local landowners. Human activities in the farmland surrounding it have to be strictly regulated since top predators contribute to the ecosystem's balance.

Ontario's Algonquin Provincial Park does not live up to its reputation of being a model park. Only about 10,000 hectares of its supposedly 800,000- hectare land area are used for park purposes. The rest of the land serves as logging sites.
