Quebec's river canary
Article Abstract:
Toxic waste dumping in the St. Lawrence River caused the dwindling of beluga whales. Studies by Leone Pippard attribute the population decline to cancer. Incidentally, high incidence rates of bladder cancer among humans were also reported in Saguenay, Quebec, a nearby area.

Numerous success stories testify that cooperation among individuals and local naturalist groups can achieve noble objectives. The Canadian Nature Federation functions in partnership with provincial organizations to advance the cause of the conservation movement.
