Reservoir sediment cores show U.S. lead declines
Article Abstract:
The Clean Air Act of 1970 has successfully reduced the lead content of the atmosphere by as much as 98% since 1972. It has addressed the problem of lead content in the atmosphere, which has harmful effects to both animals and humans, by curbing automobile emissions. Lead from automobile emissions accounted for as much as 182 kton/yr in 1970, compared to a mere 37 kton/yr for all industrial sources combined. The banning of leaded gasoline has reduced emissions from automobiles in 1992 to 2 kton/yr, compared to 3 kton/yr from industrial sources.

Seasonal variations in principal groups of organic matter in a eutrophic lake using pyrolsis/GC/MS
Article Abstract:
The pyrolysis/gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was utilized to determine the characteristics of natural organic matter (NOM) and their role in colloid transport. The levels of polysaccharide, proteins and aliphatic compounds in samples collected from Lake Bret, Switzerland increased during the summer season. Furthermore, the high levels of polysaccharide during the summer season are caused by microbial cell wall degradation during summer.
