Rodless cylinders
Article Abstract:
Rodless cylinders are gaining popularity where fluid control is impractical. They are operated by compressed air and use space more efficiently than most alternatives. Rodded cylinders are very long and tend to flex; cable, magnetic, and band cylinders were designed to fix these shortcomings but all have other problems. Rodless cylinders usually have a barrel of extruded aluminum with a slot along its length, and range from 100 mm to 12 m in length.

When the sparks fly
Article Abstract:
Scientific research in the area of electrostatics is important because of its applications in laser printers and photocopiers as well as to analyze the causes for accidental explosions. Even in the manufacture of electrical equipment careful steps have to be taken for electrical discharges as they can damage the system. Various factors affecting the insulating resistivities of materials such as moisture are analyzed.

Billions of buckytubes; mass production of carbon cylinders sparks interest
Article Abstract:
Thomas W. Ebbesen and P.M. Ajayan have discovered a method to mass produce nanometer-size carbon cylinders. The cylinders are in great demand because they are made of material that is stronger than any other, and they have a variety of electrical properties.
