Role of beta-chemokines in suppressing HIV replication
Article Abstract:
Researchers who reported on CD8 T lymphocyte anti-HIV activity disagree with another group who concluded that three beta-chemokines are responsible for the activity. Beta-chemokines, as well as other cytokines, were not present in consistent or sufficient amounts to act as cell antiviral factors.

Herpes-like sequences in HIV-infected and uninfected Karposi's sarcoma patients
Article Abstract:
A study used the polymerase chain reaction procedure to analyze 13 Karposi's sarcoma biopsies, 12 normal biopsies, peripheral blood mononuclear cells and KS-derived cell lines. Results indicate a herpesvirus-like DNA sequence in all KS biopies, including one unaffected by HIV.

Plasma viral load, CD4+ cell counts, and HIV-1 production by cells
Article Abstract:
Plasma viral load measurements are an important issue in evaluating the effectiveness of antiviral treatment of HIV-infected patients. Interpretations of research on the amount of virus produced by HIV-infected cells are discussed.
