Role of microstructure in the thermomechanical behavior of SMA composites
Article Abstract:
Numerical analysis is conducted on the thermomechanical response of a shape memory alloy (SMA) composite with ductile polymer matrix by employing a proven micromechanics model. The composite comprises ductile matrix and unidirectionally aligned SMA spheroidal inclusions. The analysis focuses on the effect of the shape and volume fraction of SMA inclusions on the overall thermomechanical response of composite and on the internal stress and strain evolution. The results are discussed.

The role of rate effects and of thermomechanical coupling in shear localization
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted of a constitutive model of a face centered cubic metal to determine the role of rate effects and of thermomechanical coupling in adiabatic shear localization. Numerical simulations was used to analyze the effect of individual material parameters. Results have shown that the influence of material parameters on shear localization cannot be predicted due to complex coupling between several effects.
