Article Abstract:
Research in the Czech Republic suffers from 25 years of repressionist policies and isolation under Soviet occupation. Universities do little research, positions have been filled based on ideology, funding is minimal and grants are blindly distributed without peer review.

HOX gene links limb, genital defects
Article Abstract:
The role that HOX genes play in humans has been largely unknown, but recent discoveries of what occurs when HOX mutates have recently been uncovered. One result is slightly abnormal fingers and toes, and another is limb and genital abnormalities.

Researchers have identified a gene named CBFA-1 which plays a key role in osteoblast differentiation and bone formation. A mutation in the gene is a factor in a skeletal disease called cleidocranial dysplasia.
