Single-nucleotide mutations for plant functional genomics
Article Abstract:
The recent progress in genome-wide screening for point mutations and natural variation in plants is reviewed. The use of traditional chemical mutagenesis to induce single-nucleotide substitutions to obtain allelic series of mutations, including knockout lesions is described.

VIGS vectors for gene silencing: many targets, many tools
Article Abstract:
VIGS and dsRNA-containing transformation cassettes are increasingly being used for reverse genetics as part of an integrated approach to determining gene function. The ways in which DNA and RNA viruses are modified to silence plant gene expression are examined.

Decoding Ca (super 2+) signals through plant protein kinases
Article Abstract:
Plants harbor four families of kinases that are implicated in Ca (super 2+) signaling (CDPKs, CRKs, CCaMKs, and SnRK3s). Some calcium-regulated kinases also show potential for regulation by lipid signals and kinase cascades.
