Sonoluminescence: sound into light
Article Abstract:
Sonoluminescence, the process through which certain air bubbles emit light, occurs as a result of an extremely powerful compression of the sound waves sonoluminscent bubbles produce. Ongoing research at the University of California at Los Angeles on sonoluminescence is described.

Producing light from a bubble of air
Article Abstract:
The phenomenon of sonoluminescence can be observed in a home laboratory by building a simple apparatus out of readily available scientific and electronic equipment. A step-by-step guide to the building and use of such an apparatus is presented.
