Space available: the US space programme offers opportunities for UK software companies
Article Abstract:
The United Kingdom Industrial Space Committee has led a group of business people and academics on a visit the US to investigate opportunities for UK software companies in the US space programme. A report published by the group in late 1999 provides recommendations on how UK expertise can penetrate the US space systems market. According to John Auburn, leader of the team and director of Science Systems (Space), there could be a billion dollar market available to British companies but some areas, such as classified military projects, will be off-limits for non-US firms.

Core concern: Most companies have yet to apply TQM principles to the area of health and safety
Article Abstract:
The principles of total quality management (TQM) are not being applied to the area of health and safety in many companies, according to the Health and Safety Executive. This is due to the difference in perception leading to a divergence in the values management attaches to each area. Companies that have taken a TQM approach to H&S have a high level of executive identity with an understanding of H&S issues and recognize that a consistent management approach is required throughout the business.
