Stabilization to remediation
Article Abstract:
A breakthrough in the 30's by Leo Casagrande in Germany, of using electrodes to speed up pore fluids through the soil, has become the basis for the technology of removing soil pollutants through electrokinetics. Chromium has been removed from soils and water from a site in Corvalis, Ore. using this technique. Elektrokinetics have also been applied in a wood treating facility to remove arsenic. Partial success in the removal of zinc underlies the need for further research in this field.

The environment is good business in France
Article Abstract:
An analysis of France reveals the status of the Green vote in the country and the EEC considerations of regional waste disposal and treatment areas. Businesses that deal with wastes and recycling are flourishing there as the French exhibit, along with other Europeans, a more tolerant attitude than do Americans toward waste-to-energy incineration plants. Particular aspects of French environmental law are also reported and discussed.
