Seasonality in Bioaccumulation of Organochlorines in Lower Trophic Level Arctic Marine Biota
Article Abstract:
Organochlorine[OC] pesticides in the Barrow Strait find their way into the tissue of Phytoplankton, ice algae, microzooplankton, meso and macrozooplankton. OC concentrations in the marine biota were compared with seawater through the year. It was found that the highest concentrations of OC were within macrozooplankton during the spring ice cover. All OC concentrations fell during the open water season except HCHs. An octanol-water partition coefficient was developed relating OC concentrations, lipid content and biochemical accumulation factors, the coefficient however did not reflect the data of the ice-free season.

Study of the Fast Competitive Adsorption of Pesticides in Soils by Simultaneous Filtration and Solid-Phase Extraction with Subsequent GC-MS
Article Abstract:
Organic matter is the primary factor in the fast sorption of pesticides in soils. The study found however that in some instances simple partition would have revealed larger movement. It is believed that interaction with specific sites explains the difference from linear behavior. The established methods of simultaneous filtration and solid phase extraction were used.
