Supporting managerial intelligence tactics through information technology
Article Abstract:
Managers in the banking industry were interviewed to describe how they use information technology (IT) tools to identify potential problems and opportunities. To determine the role that IT tools play in managerial problem finding activities, three issues were examined. These are: the tactics that managers use to identify potential problems and opportunities, the IT tools that support problem finding tactics and the manner by which IT tools support problem finding tactics.

A model was proposed to illustrate the problem-solving activities in the advanced materials industries. The model contains three broad categories of activities, namely design, process operation and testing. The design category centers on process and property designs while the build category concentrates on planning and operating the process. The test category, meanwhile, takes into consideration process testing and product testing.
