Surface structures and stability of arsenic(III) on Goethite: Spectroscopic evidence for inner-sphere complexes
Article Abstract:
Arsenite adsorption and stability in goethite is investigated and results show that arsenite surface complex formation on goethite oxides may play an important role in the environmental behavior of arsenic. A combination of standard batch techniques and X-ray absorption spectroscopy and results show that the arsenite reactivity at different pH and arsenite concentration provides strong macroscopic evidence for strong surface complexation.

Speciation of arsenic(III) and arsenic(V) in sediment extracts by high-performance liquid chromatography-hydride generation atomic absorption spectrophotometry
Article Abstract:
The different speciations of arsenic (As), including As(III) and As(IV), have varying toxicities and mobilities. In order to determine the chemical's potentially toxic varied redox states, researchers combined the capabilities of high-performance liquid chromatography and hydride generation atomic absorption spectrometry to obtain the process' required separation, sensitivity and element specificity capabilities.

Rapid oxidation of geothermal arsenic(III) in streamwaters of the eastern Sierra Nevada
Article Abstract:
Bacteria attached to submerged macrophytes appear responsible for the rapid oxidation of arsenic(III) in streamwaters of the eastern Sierra Nevada as evidenced by the absence of oxidation after sterile filtration or after the addition of antibiotics. A rapid in-stream oxidation of As(III) to As(V), meanwhile, resulted from decreasing contributions of As(III) to total arsenic concentrations.
