Synapse-making molecules revealed
Article Abstract:
Research on knockout mice indicates that an interaction between the nerve-derived protein agrin and muscle-specific kinase (MuSK) is necessary for the formation of a synapse between motor neurons and muscle cells. The discovery could have important implications for research on brain synapses.

The year of the dendrite
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that a feedback signal from the cell body to the dendrites affects the efficiency of dendritic synapses in the hippocampus and the neocortex of the brain. Two research studies on dendrites are discussed.

Laminin Beta-2 (s-laminin): a new player at the synapse
Article Abstract:
Nerve-muscle contacts in the synapses of the neuromuscular junction occur after transformation of the motor axon and the myotube. The role of laminin Beta-2 in marking the synaptic site is discussed.
