Taming environmental data
Article Abstract:
There is a multiplicity of environmental data generated during site characterization and monitoring studies. This can be handled more efficiently by a computer system that is capable of transfering data from the database to the graphics software, download analytical results from different laboratories electronically and format output in different ways without operator intervention. This system is known as the IT Environmental Database Management Systems (ITEMS). The major features of the program discussed are the central database, its presentation of data and its statistical module.

The coming boom in pipe projects
Article Abstract:
George J. Bogs, sales promotion manager at US Pipe and Foundry Co, says that there is a strong demand for pipes as a lot of construction projects are underway in the US right now. His projection is supported by a report released by the American Water Works Assn, which states that water utilities will spend $325 billion within the next 20 years in upgrading their pipelines. The EPA puts the figure at a lower but still significant $77.2 billion. Industry analysts says the biggest market for pipes in the US today is the rehabilitation of aging system.
