The African AIDS epidemic
Article Abstract:
Almost one-fourth of the inhabitants of parts of sub-Saharan African are HIV-positive. Heterosexual intercourse has been the main means of transmission, and uncircumcised men seem more susceptible to the HIV virus. Other hypotheses are discussed.

AIDS and the immune system
Article Abstract:
AIDS viruses are unique in their ability to reproduce, kill off antibodies and mutate while circulating throughout the body. Cellular interactions illustrate how the HIV virus uses the immune system to its advantage in reproducing itself.

Women and AIDS

An increasing number of women are contracting the AIDS virus. One out of three people infected with the virus is female. Researchers are beginning to focus more on studies of HIV-specific illnesses in women.
