The Heroin Prescribing Debate: Integrating Science and Politics
Article Abstract:
There is debate about whether to treat heroin addicts by prescribing heroin. Both England and Switzerland allow doctors to prescribe heroin and the successes and failures of that approach are analyzed. An Australian feasibility study identified at least 5 potential risks involved with prescribing heroin. In the end, clinical trails must be conducted.

The 1999 meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is detailed. President of AAAS M.R.C. Greenwood detailed what AAAS' board had been doing over the 1998 year. AAAS' executive officer, Richard Nicholson, also spoke on the state of the association. And Betsy Clark, chair of the Ad Hoc Task Force on Fellows, spoke.
