The cerebellum: movement coordinator or much more?
Article Abstract:
Studies have suggested that the cerebellum is involved in cognition as well as motor-function control. Critics believe it is only gearing for movements related to cerebrally dictated actions. New studies by James Bower and Peter Fox attempt to remove the motor criterion from the cerebellar tasks.

Remapping the motor cortex; the primary motor cortex of the brain does not contain an orderly map of the body but is instead a complex mosaic of neurons controlling different body parts
Article Abstract:
Researchers are discovering that, rather than one-to-one correspondance, motor cortical areas interact to control muscles and body movements. This diffuse cortical organization may enable the brain to select among a nearly infinite array of specific combinations to produce nearly any movement.

Guiding neurons to the cortex
Article Abstract:
Research on genetic mutations in humans and mice is providing data about the molecular signals that guide the migration of immature neurons to their proper destinations in the cerebral cortex. Genetic research provides the best means of identifying the proteins in the signaling process.
