The grandest unification: quantum gravity
Article Abstract:
Quantum gravity integrates the theories of general relativity and quantum mechanics to find answers to questions on the origin of the Big Bang. General relativity deals with measurable physical quantities and incorporates the theory of cause and effect. Quantum mechanics, on the other hand, leans heavily on the uncertainty principle and refutes views on cause and effect. Abhay Ashtekar of the University of Syracuse has proposed an approach which allows concepts of space-time to evolve out of quantum gravity itself. However, this approach fails in the determination of observable quantities.

Woodstock plus five and counting
Article Abstract:
The increasing variety of research topics and categories of superconductors indicates the maturity of this particular field of physics. High-temperature superconductive materials (HTSC) have long been a favorite subject among physicists due to their unique electrical and magnetic properties. Aside from their high transition temperatures, HTSCs also exhibit anisotropy and resistivity. These traits are now the main focus of research for physicists in addition for their search for other useful materials.

Computer algebra: speed is not all
Article Abstract:
Symbolic manipulation involves using the theories of calculus and algebra to derive relationships expressed in forms and symbols. The method has been used to solve differential equations and special and elliptic functions. The same method can be applied to nonlinear problems in algebra and to randomized algorithms. The wide range of possibilities offered by the computer algebraic method can be gleaned from the number of software packages based on this technique.
