The great attractors: chemical guides direct young neurons to their final destinations
Article Abstract:
A research group led by UC San Francisco's Marc Tessier-Lavigne has found two chemotropic proteins that attract nerve cell growth cones in growing nervous systems. The proteins, named netrin-1 and netrin-2, function in a manner close to that originally postulated by Santiago Ramon y Cajal.
