The search for cells that heal
Article Abstract:
Extraordinary opportunities to study and to treat human diseases are provided by the latest-acquired ability to derive stem cells from human embryos. Cells from cloned embryos would reveal the molecular mechanisms that cause inherited diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis that would further allow studying the disease process in minute detail.

Cloned tissues from stem cells might beat immune rejection
Article Abstract:
The term 'therapeutic cloning' is created to describe the creation of a cloned embryo as a source of Embryonic Stem cells, the embryo destroyed in the process. It uses somatic cell nuclear transfer, the technique that gave rise to Dolly, nucleus of one of the patient's cells that is transferred into a donated egg whose own nucleus is removed.

Mother of all cells
Article Abstract:
Scientists expect enormous benefits for humankind from the surge of research on embryonic stem cells. Stem cells serve as a biological repair system with the potential to develop into many types of specialized cells in the body and could theoretically divide without limit to replenish other cells.
