The social process of competence building
Article Abstract:
Organizational competencies are a product of the learning process. A comparison of Danish and US technological learning processes in wind energy technology reveals that technological competencies or the competency to develop a new technology are shaped by social and cultural factors and embedded in the organizational routines and behaviors of engineers and workers. However, the establishment of norms and behaviors does not occur at the organizational level alone, since institutions such as educational systems and state agencies also play important roles in shaping social practices at the organizational level.

The role of renewal in organizational learning
Article Abstract:
Renewal is a prerequisite of organizational learning and revitalization. Since continuity is important in organizational learning, it is imperative that members of an organization view learning as a process of renewal instead of a process of transformation. While transformation refers to a drastic change, conversion or elevation, renewal pertains to a gradual process which works with whatever is pre-existing rather than ignoring it. Renewal preserves continuity with the past which is a precondition of learning.
