Decavitator vs Flying Fish: the race for the fastest human-powered watercraft has a winner

'Decavitator,' a human-powered watercraft with a slow-spinning air propeller, won the $25,000 Du Pont Speed Prize in 1992 by attaining a speed of 18.5 knots. 'Flying Fish,' a craft with a submerged propeller, posted a speed of 16.7 knots. Craft design details are discussed.

Space after the race
Article Abstract:
The space race ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union. This factor, in addition to new political and economic realities, will mean a more modest US space program. Likely space goals and new space cooperation with Russia are discussed.
