The yin and yang of T cell costimulation
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that a delicate interplay between positive signals from T cell surface molecule CD28 and negative signals from cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4) determine the outcome of T cell activation. The finding suggests methods that can be used in clinical situations to regulate the immune response.

Developmental Options
Article Abstract:
The innate and adaptive immune systems are linked by dendritic cells (DC). Injury or infection causes the DCs, which ingest antigens, to leave tissue and travel towards the lymph nodes where the processed antigen sets the immune response into motion. DCs appear to be related to blood monocytes.

Tickling memory T cells
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that type I interferons (IFN I) can help generate T cell responses and immunologic memory. Implications of the finding include the possibility that stimulation of IFN during intermittent viral infections may help maintain the pool of memory T cells.
