Thermodynamic law of corresponding shock states in flexible polymeric foams

Article Abstract:

A simple formula representing the state of flexible polymeric foams was developed based on thermodynamic considerations and empirical data on isothermal compression of elastomeric foams. The equation establishes the relationship between the thermodynamic characteristics of the material and the foam porosity. The Hugoniot adiabat of foams, whose porosity is less than 0.3, can be represented in a form similar to that of bulk solids.

Compressive stress-strain relations and shock Hugoniot curves of flexible foams

Article Abstract:

A compressive stress-strain relation with the relative density as the vital parameter, is developed by evaluating the constants of the general mathematical function. For flexible foams the shock Hugonoit curves and the dynamic nature of foams struck head-on by shock waves are deduced by the presented compressive stress-strain relations. The asymptotic character of the shock Hugonoit relations is also studied.

High strain extension of open-cell foams

Article Abstract:

In this article analysis of open-cell foam high tensile deformation is described. Data reveal that the predicted stress-strain and Poisson's ratios of open-cell foam are similar to stress-strain curves of polyuretane foams.
