Article Abstract:

Snow samples collected by Earthwatch teams on Alaska's North Slope bore concentrations of sulfate and nitrate, due to air pollution transported from industries in Europe and Soviet Union, is presented. The participants in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) symposium in Seattle in February 2004 identified additional examples of air pollution transport across borders and oceans, and stressed the importance of science in positively influencing international awareness.

Article Abstract:

The project aims to explore the process of integrating folk music traditions into modern Russian culture to conserve this rich cultural heritage. Dr. Andrei Kabanov and his project team will go to folk music performance and intimate gatherings with local youth groups to make audio recordings and document other aspects of the musical traditions.

Europe-Africa songbird migration

Article Abstract:

The project monitors bird migration on two continents to help restore declining populations and manage habitat change. The project team captured birds to gain insights into how birds refuel during migration, and what their condition tells us about habitat degradation along the way.
