To Mac or not to Mac
Article Abstract:
An Apple Macintosh computer owner narrates the dilemma he encountered when he bought a new laptop computer. A loyal Mac user, he was confused whether he should buy another one or migrate to Windows 95. After testing both systems, he opted to buy a PowerBook. He felt that its 'look and feel' still holds appeal to merit his loyalty. In fact, he says that his brother is switching back to the Mac even if he uses PCs in the office. For him, it is the user's affinity with the machine that counts, even if the Mac is incompatible with most of the other computers.

Creating the people's computer
Article Abstract:
Computers, which are supposed to enhance productivity, sometimes aggravate previously unautomated tasks. Computer systems sometimes create the duplication of tasks, delay the completion of simple commands, overload users with operating manuals and are loaded with unnecessary features. The correction of these faults, the development of automatization tools and the creation of new gentle-slope software systems that can comprehend specialized human concepts and which can be customized easily by ordinary users will enhance the benefits of using computers.

Melding mind and machine
Article Abstract:
Complementarity between computers and people can be achieved by using computers to translate data sets into perceptual representations that are more understandable by humans. New computer technology such as fast, real time, interactive display systems can allow the modification of symbolic or numeric information into perceptual information. Computer systems should also minimize the need for precise numerical information from users so that people will be able to focus more on higher-level evaluation rather than on tedious, repetitive tasks.
