Toward a zero-emissions economy
Article Abstract:
The global economy must shift to something of a 'spaceship economy' to realize sustainable growth for many years without the need to exploit natural capital. This can be done by using a service-based economy wherein final consumption of goods is based on the services derived from such goods. This system of consumption ensures that only when the existence of the 'real' need for the services of a product is present is the product produced. This system allows for the constant maintenance of the product so that its useful life is extended and the need to exploit natural resources to produce such products is decreased.

Relationships between chlorinated hydrocarbons in vegetation and socioeconomic indices on a global scale
Article Abstract:
Economic and socioeconomic factors were evaluated in the development of a global picture of the environmental spread of organic chemicals. The presence of HCB, HCHs and other forms of chlorinated hydrocarbons in vegetation from various countries in man-impacted areas exhibited a strong relationship with economic development. The established relationship between pollution and development indicate a need to consider the channels through which contaminants are distributed on a global scale.
