Tracing human lineages
Article Abstract:
The analysis of mitochondrial DNA provides clues to the origin of man, his migrations and matings. Analysis of the differences in the base-pair composition yields a phylogenetic tree that determines the degree of genetic variation among the samples. Mitochondrial DNA is an excellent tool for these studies because it mutates five to ten times faster than nuclear DNA, all mitochondrial DNA in an individual is identical and inherited only from the mother.

Archaeology and Eve
Article Abstract:
Archaeology is an effective tool in finding evidences of modern man's ancestry. Morphology does not necessarily relate to behavior. It is therefore necessary to look into archaeological records because they offer insights regarding man's past, his behavior and advancement. Archaeological records are indicative of man's level of advancement and it should be utilized as a reference in explaining the evolution of modern man.

The biochemical route to human origins
Article Abstract:
Tracing human origins through the analysis of mitochondrial DNA offers two advantages. The first is that mitochondria are inherited maternally. This makes tracing lineages easier and clearer since it is not subject to the confusing effect of biparental inheritance. Second, mitochondrial DNA mutates five to ten times faster than nuclear DNA. This makes it an effective measure of the genetic variations among individuals.
