Seismological research that forecasts the likelihood for future earthquakes on California's complex fault system is presented. Topics addressed include the use of Global Positioning System technology to gather information about the slip rates along fault lines, and studying fault pressures that led up to the 1999 earthquake in Turkey.

Desert wetlands
Article Abstract:
Construction of two wetland facilities in the Sonoran Desert for treating wastewater from the New River flowing along the borders of Mexico and California is discussed. The wetlands are expected to improve the water quality of the Salton Sea into which the wastewater is being diverted.
