Northern Ireland is comprehensively served by all types of transport, including flight from Belfast International Airport, which handles 2.3 million passengers/year. It serves 45 destinations through 34 charter and 11 scheduled services, and its executive jet service offers dedicated customs and immigration facilities. The airport is 10 minutes drive from Belfast city business centre. The Port of Belfast handles all types of cargo and is served by 4,500 ships, with services to the remainder of the UK and also to Europe.

The use of trenchless technology in the fitting and rehabilitation of underground utility systems is becoming increasingly common. Trenchless technologies, which include slip-lining, microtunneling and guided or directional drilling, have cost benefits and create minimal surface disruption. Experts maintain that trends, including the widespread aging of utility systems in developed nations, indicate that the market for the technology will expand to a value of $15 billion by 2005.
