Tribute to Swiss structural engineers moves to MIT
Article Abstract:
The details regarding the idea that inspired the veteran professor to create a museum exhibit is given, which looks at the education and accomplishments of four Swiss engineers who exemplify the best in structural engineering. The multimedia exhibit includes original drawings, photographs, three-dimensional models, and CD-Rom presentations of the engineers' works, which include concrete and steel bridges and thin-shell structures.

Full-scale model bridge will test-sensors and monitors
Article Abstract:
The EMPA team has designed and constructed a full-size footbridge that features glass-fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) girders and have evaluated various systems that could be used to mitigate the phenomena that caused 'Galloping Gertie' opened in 1940. This 20 m long, 2.5 m wide bridge was designed according to the European Union standards and is systematic, so that one long 'free' span can be studied most closely.
