Asia-Pacific airborne: six futuristic mega-airports, including Hong Kong International, will handle unprecedented growth in air travel in the Asia-Pacific region
Article Abstract:
Six mega-airports are expected to become available in the Asia-Pacific region during the first decade of the 21st century. One of these giant airports is the new Hong Kong airport which opened on Jul 6, 1998. However, the airport has been saddled with problems such as computer bugs, delayed flights and lost cargo. Nevertheless, its planners expect that once the problems are solved, the $20-billion high-tech facility will contribute much to the improvement of trade, commerce and tourism in the Asia-Pacific region.

Development threatens Asia's parks, reserves
Article Abstract:
Southeast Asia's rich and diverse national parks and reserves are at risk due to rapid economic expansion in the region. A large proportion of the region's natural habitat has been destroyed since the 1960s. Further destruction is continuing despite the introduction of government protection programmes. Many of Thailand's parks will disappear unless radical policing methods are implemented to protect them.
