Ukraine nuclear power struggles for survival
Article Abstract:
A dwindling economy coupled with the lingering effect of the 1986 Chernobyl accident continue to affect Ukraine's energy sector and the country's nuclear power is struggling for survival. The deteriorating living standards and the decline in the industry's prestige after 1986 have resulted in a shortage of manpower. Despite adequate assistance from international resources for conducting several scientific research projects, factors such as lack of cooperation on the part of the government and the donors' intention of boosting their economies limit the usefulness of such attempts.

Zoo breeding efforts: an ark of survival?
Article Abstract:
The American Zoo and Aquariums Association started a wild life conservation program in 1980, which tries to preserve endangered species through captive breeding programs. The program helps zoos to protect species of all kinds and focuses on maintaining demographic stability and genetic variability of animals. Critics of captive breeding programs accuse that these programs are expensive, domesticate wild animals and reduce wildlife population, however captive programs prove to be successful in preserving many endangered species.

Wayward grizzlies spark debate
Article Abstract:
The US Fish and Wildlife Service believes that the high incidence of stray grizzly bears sighted in the Greater Yellowstone area indicates that the bears are no longer endangered. Conservationists, on the other hand, argue that the bears are being forced further from their natural but deteriorating habitats.
