Washington buildup
Article Abstract:
Washington, D.C. has initiated three major projects to improve the basic infrastructure of the city, despite its financial problems. The 220,000 sq ft footprint, 20,000-seat MCI Center will serve as a sports arena. It will incorporate varied styles of the surrounding buildings and use a mix of architectural elements. The city is under pressure, and has initiated the upgrade of the drinking water system and capacity expansion of the Blue Plains Waste Water Treatment Plant. The city has also planned to improve the aesthetics and accessibility of its monumental core.

Green light
Article Abstract:
The construction of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (MTA) new light-rail line, Metro Green Line, was a unique and complex contracting arrangement which required a good deal of coordination. Construction of the median train line became difficult after the opening of the freeway. Green Line is a pilot project for MTA's new change control system. Green Line, which opened in Aug 1995, carries 15,000 passengers daily, 5,000 more than the initial estimates. This service is expected to carry 48,000 passengers daily by 2001 AD.
