Watching the Universe's Second Biggest Bang
Article Abstract:
Astronomers witnessed an entire gamma ray burst event on Jan 23, 1999. The observations of GRB 990123 marked the first time that an optical flash and the initial gamma ray burst were observed simultaneously. The research provides new clues about the nature of gamma ray bursts.

Isolated neutron stars
Article Abstract:
Recent observations by x-ray, gamma ray and UV space telescopes have identified seven objects that may be young isolated neutron stars, which have not yet become radio pulsars. They had not been visible with radio telescopy, which has identified about 700 pulsars.

It's official: gamma bursts come from far, far away
Article Abstract:
A team of astronomers has determined that the source of gamma-ray bursts is outside of the Milky Way and is at least several billion light-years away. Observations by the Beppo-SAX satellite were important in the discovery.
