When slide rules ruled

Slide Rule was invented by English minister William Oughtred in 1622. Before electronic calculators, the mechanical slide rule dominated scientific and engineering computation while it was seen that some engineers wielded slide rules made of exotic mahogany and boxwood, others sported rules fashioned from ivory, aluminum or fiberglass but all slide rules were based on logarithms.

The caiman trade
Article Abstract:
Caimans are hunted for their skins used to make leathergoods that can be sold as much as those made of alligator skin. The caiman is fast becoming an endangered specie because of the increasing illegal trade of caiman skin despite efforts to stop it.

Article Abstract:
The WTO ruling on shrimping shows that trade rules and ecological concerns remain far from reconciliation. A healthy environment is one of the prerequisites of healthy business but the WTO ruling shows how difficult it is to implement the principle.
