Whitehead, three firms strike deal

Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research and biotech firms Affymetrix Inc and Millennium Pharmaceuticals are forming a consortium to develop faster and more efficient methods of collecting and analyzing genetic data. All the companies will share in the commercials rights to any new technologies developed.

Modified microbe may boost TB vaccine

Researchers have engineered the mycobacterium bacille Calmette-Guerin (BBC) to express several mouse cytokines that stimulate cellular immune responses to tuberculosis antigens. The finding is viewed as a great achievement because it holds promise of an improved TB vaccine.
