World Trade Center memorial finalists unveiled
Article Abstract:
The eight final designs for a memorial in New York City to those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 are unveiled. The outline of the twin towers' foot-prints, private space for the family members of victims, a record of all the victims' names and a tomb to contain unidentified remains are some of the common characteristics shared by the designers.

Structures: California commends economy of 'green' buildings
Article Abstract:
An investment of $100,000 in green building design on a $5-million project would result in a savings of at least $1 million over the life of the building, assumed conservatively to be 20 years. Most studies of the financial costs and benefits of green construction have focused on individual projects rather than the practice as a whole.

Alternatives sought for San Francisco runway reconfiguration
Article Abstract:
Different options are presented for expanding the runway capacity of the San Francisco International Airport. These include constructing a floating runway, building a pile-supported platform, and/or filling wetland areas, provided wetlands are reclaimed elsewhere along the bay.
