Neuroscientists from Beth Israel Hospital and Harvard Medical School have found that a form of epilepsy known as periventricular heterotopia (PH) is a X-linked chromosome defect. Research suggests that a genetic marker associated with the the gene L1 is associated with PH.

Neuroscientist Peter L. Strick of the Veterans Admin Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, is using viruses to map brain pathways in monkeys. Certain virus strains, such as herpes simplex type I, follow the path of nerve impulses through neighboring cells.
