Shortage of human organ donors have prompted experts to continue their struggle for successful transplantation of animal parts to humans. Various methods of preventing hyperacute rejection and viral infections are being studied by xenotransplant surgeons.

The problematic red wolf

Genetic evidence indicate that the red wolf may actually be a hybrid of the coyote and the gray wolf. This has spurred debates on how to determine distinct species and may affect efforts to save several endangered species.
